WooCommerce or Shopier? Where should you start selling online?

The differences between a custom online store and ready platforms such as Shopier, the cost factors involved, and how to choose the right option for a business.

One of the first decisions for a business planning to sell online is whether to build a custom online store or use a ready platform such as Shopier. Both options are widely used. The right choice depends on the product range and sales volume.

How do ready platforms work?

Shopier is a ready sales platform widely used in Türkiye, offering hosted product pages and checkout. Products are added to the system, payments are taken by card and the amount is transferred to the business’s account. The server, security and payment infrastructure are managed by the provider.

In return for this convenience, a commission is paid on every sale. The store’s appearance and functionality are limited to the options the platform offers. Ready platforms can also be connected to an existing website. In that case, products are listed on the site and payment is taken on the provider’s page.

A custom store with WooCommerce

WooCommerce is an e-commerce system added to WordPress-based sites. Design, product pages, campaigns and shipping rules can be configured to the business’s needs. For card payments, a payment provider such as iyzico or PayTR, both widely used in Türkiye, is integrated.

With a custom store, hosting, updates, backups and security need to be monitored regularly. Payment providers also charge a commission per transaction, so their rates should be compared and assessed.

Which option suits whom?

  • For businesses that are just starting out with a limited product range, ready platforms are usually more suitable. Setup is quick and the initial cost is low.
  • As the number of products and sales volume grow, commission rates and platform limitations become more noticeable. At this stage a custom store may be more advantageous.
  • For businesses that need wholesale sales, dealer pricing or specific shipping rules, a custom store offers a more flexible structure.
  • In projects where brand presentation is a priority, a custom store allows the design to be fully tailored to the brand.

What to consider before deciding

  • Estimated monthly order volume
  • Product range and how often products are updated
  • Need for wholesale or dealer sales
  • Who will handle the store’s technical maintenance
  • Whether there is an existing website and whether the store will be connected to it

The Piron’s approach

A project begins by assessing the product structure and sales process. If a ready platform is sufficient, it is integrated into the existing site. Where a custom store is more suitable, the store is built with WooCommerce and payment and shipping integrations are set up. At handover, training is provided on product, order and stock management.
